Graduate teaching has focused on the Master of Arts program in Communication and Leadership. Developed online courses and taught the following courses in online and face-to-face delivery formats: Experimental Research, Measuring Leadership, Conflict Management, and The Internet as Interpersonal Communication.

 

University of Missouri – Kansas City (1987-2005)

 

Teaching focused on computer-mediated communication and interpersonal communication.

 

Frequently taught communication courses at undergraduate and graduate level included the following: Intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, organizational communication, public speaking, communication education, research methods.

 

Taught writing intensive courses and first year experience course. Directed graduate research.

Consulting experience while a college professor has emphasized instructional improvement.

·        Practicum experience at Park Hill Union Chapel Elementary (for SPED), DeLaSalle Academy Alternative School (Kansas City, MO for SPED), Blue Valley West High School (10th Grade English for ESL), Olathe Migrant Education Program (Indian Creek Elementary for ESL, Tomahawk Elementary for ESL).

·        Teacher consultant to Migrant Education Program, Bonner Springs Elementary School, Kansas, 2003-2004.

·        Provided faculty development instruction to K-12 teachers with 3-30 years teaching experience (under approval of the Minister of Education, Jamaica), 2002.

·        Worked in School Performance with the Office of the Assistant Superintendent for Division III (30 Elementary Schools), District of Columbia Public Schools, 2002.

 

 

ASSESSMENT

 

 

 

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Courses taught totally online: Computer-mediated-communication, experimental research, measuring leadership, conflict resolution, intercultural communication, intrapersonal communication, organizational communication, interpersonal communication, public speaking, American literature, communication theory, and rhetorical theory and criticism.

Leshan College (People’s Republic of China):  Taught students onground in China using Blackboard support from a server in the US at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and I taught UMKC students online from China.

Team-taught online course with a faculty member in another state.

Developed undergraduate and graduate courses for online format using eCollege.

Broadcast media: Supervised instructional media lab, provided televised and audio programs for course delivery. Directed public access television station. Taught broadcast production techniques.

Studied online instructional methods through faculty development courses at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (Blackboard and WebCT), University of Maryland –University College (WebTycho) and Florida Community College at Jacksonville (Blackboard).
